£3,000 to Move Phone Box

Ramsey Commissioners are to be asked to spend £3,000 to relocate a phone box.

Chairman Alby Oldham will bring the motion to its meeting this evening.

The local authority has previously purchased the redundant kiosk, which is on the Courthouse grounds and resolved to repurpose it.

Mr Oldham’s motion would see the phone box moved to a ‘more prominent position at the front of the Courthouse’.

The motion reads: ‘In so doing, I propose that work is done to investigate and to move the telephone kiosk from its current location and that it be located close to the post box. This is a registered building sitting in the Ramsey conservation area. It will require approval from the Conservation Officer and planning approval.’

The projected costs for the move, including basic ground works and an electricity supply is £3,000.

Commissioner Juan McGuinness shared the motion for tonight’s meeting, which he described as ‘interesting’.

He added: ‘I see that a provisional budget of £3,000 has been requested to undertake this work (if agreed). Unsure on how that figure has come about but it seems a lot of ratepayers money on this.’
