A National Debate on Dying

We’re all going to die one day, but should people who are terminally ill have a greater say in how they choose to go?

That is the question being asked of islanders as part of a consultation brought about by Dr Alex Allinson.

Over the next seven weeks, islanders are invited to offer their views on the policies and procedures before a Bill is drafted to go to Tynwald.

Tynwald has discussed the issues around assisted dying several times in the past two decades and there have been Tynwald petitions, affirmative motions by Junior Tynwald and in February 2015 Speaker Juan Watterson also asked for leave to introduce a bill to amend the law with respect to assisted dying which was not supported at that time.
