Assisted Dying Bill Passes Second Reading
An amendment by Onchan MHK Rob Callister to refer the Bill to a committee will be debated in the Keys next week.
Dr Alex Allinson’s bid to introduce Assisted Dying legislation to the island has cleared its second hurdle after MHKs voted to support its second reading.
The Private Members’ Bill would see the island introduce laws allowing terminally ill island residents to request and be lawfully provided with assistance to end their life.
After a long debate, which showed the best of not only the House of Keys, but of our elected politicians, the Bill cleared its second reading by a vote of 17 to 7.
The Bill will now advance to the clauses stage, which is expected to take some time.
