Clara and the Gang Link up with Braddan

Kerbside recycling collections in Braddan are set to change in April, with Recycle Collect Limited, taking on the collections provided by Braddan Commissioners.

Founded by the infectiously enthusiastic Clara Isaac, the company has gone from strength to strength offering doorstep recycling collections.

There are 1,500 properties in Braddan, which receive a kerbside service to collect glass, paper, cardboard, cans and plastic.

Currently Recycle Collect employs six staff, with recent additions to the team in preparation for the expansion, and further recruitment required later this year. Their vehicle fleet also continues to expand, with four Recycle Collect vehicles out on the road, and electric collection vehicles in the pipeline.

Braddan Commissioners chairman Andrew Jessopp said: ‘Only a few weeks ago the authority was faced with the dilemma of needing to find, at short notice, a replacement contractor to continue the kerbside recycling service in Braddan. We are delighted that Recycle Collect reacted so positively to the authority’s request for assistance and their willingness to work with us to enable a virtually seamless continuation of the service to our residents.’

Clara Isaac, Director of Recycle Collect added: ‘90% of biodiversity loss is due to the extraction/processing of raw materials. Our earths resources are finite, and our need to reduce, reuse, recycle has never been more important.

‘My Team and I have been working so hard over the past 18 months to increase awareness and understanding about recycling, and also perfect our collection processes. We are delighted to be working with Braddan Commissioners and further expand our service. This past year has seen us working with other Local Parishes including Santon, Arbory and Rushen I would love nothing more than to help other areas introduce a kerbside recycling collection for their residents.’

The local authority says that recycling participation rates are ‘of continued concern’, but it hopes that the new contract will encourage more residents to participate in the service.

Collections will remain fortnightly, but collection days will move to the following:
* Wednesdays (commencing 5 th April) – Central Braddan (Union Mills, Strang, Mount Rule, Baldwin, Cronkbourne, Cooil, Farmhill)
* Thursdays (commencing 6 th April) – Richmond Hill, Kewaigue and Port Soderick
* Fridays (commencing 7 th April) – Mount Murray
