Committee Calls for Westminster Representation

Jersey already operates a London office, with Guernsey said to be considering it as a way to represent the views of the islands in London.
The Constitutional and Legal Affairs and Justice Committee, chaired by Tanya August-Hanson MLC, said that while the island’s relationship with the UK is strong, ‘more needs to be done’.
It added: ‘In particular, given the importance of political engagement at Westminster, the existing institutional arrangements and resources are insufficient. A permanent representative in London is needed who should be directly accountable to the Isle of Man Government.’
To achieve this it will ask Tynwald to support sending a permanent representative to Westminster ‘who is accountable to the democratically elected government of the Isle of Man’.
It also wants CoMin to investigate how this opinion could be put into practice and to report to Tynwald with recommendations, including sharing resources and expertise with the Channel Islands.
