Attorney General

Applications are being invited for the appointment of a new Attorney General. Previous AG John Quinn QC died in office earlier this year following a short illness.

The AG acts as legal adviser to the Lieutenant Governor, CoMin, gov departments and statutory boards as CoMin may determine in relation to matters of law and official matters which are relevant to the Island’s domestic and external interests.

Do You Want to be a Commissioner?

Andreas Parish Commissioners will hold a by-election as it seeks to fill the vacant spot on its board. There are current four members on the board, which should be made up of five.

Forms of nomination can be obtained by emailing clerk@andreas.gov.im and returned before Thursday March 3. If more than one candidate comes forward, the election will be held on on March 31.

Police Appeal

Police are investigating a fight that occurred outside the Card Factory on Strand Street at 3.15pm on Monday 14th February 2022. This altercation involved three men in a busy area of the street where it is known that a number of witnesses will have seen this. If you were in the area at that time and can assist Police with their investigation, you’re asked to contact PC Taylor at Police HQ on 631212. Quote investigation reference 97/8704/22.

Ukraine

The US and UK say Russia’s order to deploy troops to eastern Ukraine amounts to the ‘beginning of an invasion’. It isn’t yet clear if Russian troops have actually entered the region, though it is assumed they have, if they weren’t already there. Russian President Vladimir Putin says the ‘demilitarisation’ of Ukraine is the only solution to the ongoing crisis. American President Joe Biden is due to speak from the White House at around 6pm our time.
