Manx Utilities chairman John Wannenburgh will be the guest at a meeting next week to discuss how the island meets its energy needs after the 2023 target to decarbonise the electricity grid.
The Douglas North MHK will address the meeting, organised by the Lib Vannin Party, on a range of issues relating to the island’s energy supply.
The meeting will also look at the (ever so slightly controversial) topic of onshore wind generation, solar power, what other renewables could be used and whether network upgrades will be required to support future demand.
Plus, the meeting will look at future demand and give islanders a chance to put their feelings across to the chairman of the sole electricity provider.
A Lib Vannin Party spokesman said: ‘Liberal Vannin is broadly supportive of the drive to reduce our dependence on gas for power generation. Moving to renewables has been too slow, if anything, but it must deliver electricity for the Island in a sustainable, reliable and affordable way. We look forward to the debate.’
The meeting starts at 7.30pm at the Manx Legion Club, Douglas on Monday April 22.
