Inflation Goes up, Unemployment Comes Down
Inflation reached 10.1% in October, with unemployment dropping by 17 to 290.
The latest figures from the gov show that while inflation has once again entered double digits, unemployment is falling.

The main drivers of inflation appear to be housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’, which continues to be the biggest contributor inflation with an increase of 31.6%, within this category ‘gas’, saw the biggest increase of (149.7%). The category ‘food and non-alcoholic drinks’ has seen the second biggest increase contributing 12.5% to the overall CPI. ‘Oils and fats’, have seen the biggest increase in this category up (34.8%).
Some good news though is that air travel is down 4% and children’s outerwear is down 18% and for those of you getting a headache from all this, painkillers are down 1.9%.
Looking at unemployment, we currently have a 0.6% unemployment rate, down 0.1% from September, this is matched with a drop int he number of vacancies at the Job Centre, down to 866 from 910.
Unsurprisingly for long-time fans of these figures, medical and health services (184), retail (177) and catering and entertainment (150).
