Inflation Jumps 0.4%
The only way is up.
Inflation as measured by Consumer price index stood at 6.4% for January 2022, up from 6.0% in December 2021.
The category ‘Transport’ remains the largest contributor to the rate of inflation, providing a 3.1% increase in the overall 12-month rate, followed by ‘Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels’ and ‘Recreation and culture’, which both contributed a 1.0% increase.Â
Highest of all those is air travel, which has, if you’ll pardon the pun, soared to 79.9%. Oil and other fuels are up 48.7% which oil and fats jumped 23.3%, gas 19.1%, petrol and oil 23% and driving lessons are also up 16.7%.
Counteracting this, children’s outerwear is down 23.7% and good news for lovers of sausage, pork is down 7.9%.
