Lower Landing Fees Possible for Greener Aircraft

Airlines that use greener fuels or aircraft could one day benefit from cheaper landing fees at Ronaldsway.

DoI Minister Tim Crookall was asked what consideration hs been given to cutting the fees by John Wannenburgh (Douglas North).

Landing fees vary significantly based on the type and size of the aircraft involved and more details on them can be found here.

Mr Crookall said this lower the landing fees for flights with lower emissions something his department would ‘consider’, but said ‘it is not possible to implement at this stage’.

He added: ‘The Airport wants to ensure that the proper measures are incentivised with the three key fuel sources being hydrogen, electricity, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF); the airport currently does not offer any of these and would require significant investment if it was to provide them.

‘A decision will need to be made on what types of future fuels can be offered, if the airport is to provide any. There are also Carbon offset programs and initiatives to neutralise emissions that could be recognised.

‘Further consideration will need to be given to a number of issues, such as ensuring that the right airport infrastructure is in place, before anything can be progressed or implemented.’
