Radio Makes £14k Profit

Manx Radio recorded an increase in its profit for 2022/23, with the taxpayer financing 46% of its income.

The turnover from continuing operations in 2022/23 of £1,323,738 was £155,966 (13,3%) above that of 2021/22 (£1,167,772).

In a report due to go to Tynwald this month, the station’s profit rose from £9,658 in 2021/22 to £14,524 in 2022/23, while the taxpayer subsidy rose from £1,078,722 to £1,089,509.

We can see from the downloads and take up, that these are proving popular with the community, offering, as they do, more in-depth coverage of the news stories and reports carried on Manx Radio in a convenient and easy way at a time when the listener wants to hear it.’

While audience figures show the station’s website is below the Covid peak of 9,815,045, this has been the same for many news outlets across the world and the Q1 figure for 2023 of 6,824,667 is a marked increase on the rest of the year.

The station has also an increase in its total video views, podcast page requests and on-demand requests between Q4 2022 and Q1 2023.

Manx Radio’s RAJAR figures, which monitor audience engagement across the UK, have risen to 45% in Q1 2023, up from 40% in Q2 2022.
