She Was Trying to Save Lives

The head of the British Medical Association’s elected council says Dr Rosalind Ranson should be applauded for risking her own career in trying to save lives at the height of the pandemic.

While Prof Banfield’s visit to the island was long in the diary, it has coincided with the Dr Rosalind Ranson tribunal reaching it’s conclusion, though much is still to be said and debated about its outcomes and the events that transpired during it.

He said that Dr Ranson is ‘impressively brave in how she stood up for what is right’.

‘I don’t think people were expecting that. There is no question that her changes to the way that healthcare was being delivered at the start of the pandemic were scientifically evidence base,’ he said.

‘She applied her expertise to helping curtail the pandemic, she wasn’t listened to, she was overruled, that is not just disturbing, that is appalling and patients suffered from that.

‘What she did was to stand up to try and save patient lives and any doctor who loses their career for trying to do that needs to be applauded and the people who are responsible for this need to hang their heads in shame.’
