Slight Rise in Unemployment
The island has an unemployment rate of 0.5%.
July saw the first rise in unemployment in five months, with 245 registered as out of work.

At end of the month, 815 job vacancies remained at the Job Centre, which is a increase of 27 vacancies compared to the previous month (June 2023). Of these, 56% (458) were full time positions and 44% (357) were part time.
The sector with the highest number of unemployed people is catering and entertainment, followed by retail. However, catering and entertainment had the highest number of vacancies remaining, followed by medical and health services and retail.
Despite this increase, the trend in the number of people registered unemployed is still lower than at any point in recent years.
However, there is also a downwards trend in the number of vaccines being received by the Job Centre.
The International Labour Organisation estimates that 690 individuals were unemployed and looking for work in July compared with 673 in June. This amounts to an unemployment rate of 1.5%.
