Sturgeon: Now is The Time to Go

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says she is sure in her heart and head that the time is right for her to resign.

The SNP leader has led Scotland since 2014 and is very much the face of the independence movement.

Speaking at a press conference, Ms Sturgeon said she has had ‘the very best job in the world’ and that being First Minister has been a ‘privilege beyond measure’.

She said: ‘I am proud to stand here as the first female and longest serving incumbent of this office.’

Addressing the sudden announcement, Ms Sturgeon said it is the duty of leader to know when to go and that ‘in my head and heart that time is now’.

She acknowledged that some will be ‘upset’ and joked that others will ‘cope just fine’ with the news. She added: ‘My decision comes from a place of duty and love.’

Describing the job as FM as relentless, she said: ‘I’m not expecting violins here but I am a human being as well as a politician’,

Ms Sturgeon will remain in post until her successor is appointed.
