Tynwald Members to Pay For Parking?

All parking charges for gov owned spaces were suspended three years ago

DoI Minister Chris Thomas says he has asked for a parking order to be drawn up for Tynwald members in the gov’s car park.

All parking charges for gov owned spaces were suspended three years ago at the start of the pandemic.

However, as the public are charged more to park at places like the airport, questions have been asked, mostly by Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh about Tynwald members getting free parking spaces in the heart of Douglas.

Mr Thomas said that the former chief secretary Will Greenhow ordered a suspension given the number of people working from home at the start of covid.

He added: ‘Since the decision was made to suspend the charges, no instruction has been received to recommence charging on the previous basis. However, I have asked the Department to draft a Parking Order for Tynwald Members in the Government Offices car park. This will need to be considered within the Tynwald Management Process.’
