Homes for Ukraine – Six Months on
We start with a look back to the night of March 11 2022.
Just over 100 Ukrainians have been approved to come to the island since the Isle of Man Homes for Ukraine Scheme was launched.
The scheme saw islanders who were able to host Ukrainians register for a minimum period of six months to house refugees fleeing the war following Russia’s invasion in February.
To mark the six months since this happened, Gef has spoken to people involved in ensuring the scheme was a success, a host, a teenager who moved to the island and a charity which has been incredibly helpful in assisting Ukrainians in settling into the island.
Going back to March 11 2022, islanders came together in a cold and dark Villiers Square to hold a vigil in support of the people of Ukraine. That night we heard from the Mayor of Douglas Raina Chatel, Lord Bishop Peter Eagles and Ukrainian Karolina Davison.
