We Have no Confidence in This Government

Today will not only see the final sitting of Tynwald for this calendar year, but it will also see a protest from people who think the gov just has its priorities all wrong.

Isle Take a Stand has been formed by Hannah and Kirrie, two barbers who say they have noticed a growing dissatisfaction from islanders towards the Cannan administration.

Hannah said: ‘We noticed over, say like the past year and a half, just how almost every single client that we’ve had in has been affected in the cost of living, wherever it’s trying to buy a house, to pay the bills, just over like a course things, mainly things to do as well with like the health care system, the mental health.’

They said that people have told them they have tried reaching out to MHKs but that they don’t feel like our politicians are doing enough to support workers, with the entire political system failing them, not just the gov.

Kirrie added: ‘We’ve got kids and I just think, what future have our kids got the way the government is run at the minute?

‘That’s why we wanted to come together, just really so people could have their say. People talk, people are keyboard warriors, but no-one actually comes forward and it’s just an opportunity for people to get together and do it together.’

Isle Take a Stand’s aim is to highlight areas that they think politicians are failing to prioritise, such as why the Isle of Man Foodbank is looking busier than ever, people struggling to pay their bills and local charities seeing more and more people rely on them.

Hannah and Kirrie said their clients have also told them of their fears about the state of the hospital and questioned the building of a sea wall while they see schools and doctors struggling.

Their protest is to being held outside the final Tynwald sitting from 10am to 2pm on Tuesday December 12.
