We’re Frustrated Too

Manx Utilities says it shares the frustrations of residents as negotiations over land deals for sewage works drag on.

In its fortnightly updates for Garff and Peel sewage works, the MUA said its staff are ‘working very hard to deliver regional sewage treatment solutions for the remaining catchments of Peel, Laxey and Baldrine’.

Starting with Peel, MUA said it is ‘entering the final stages of land acquisition for the Peel sewage treatment site’, making the deal sound like a never ending transfer saga befitting of a Sky Sports News yellow ticker update.

It added: ‘We are very grateful to the landowner of the preferred site for their flexibility and support whilst formalities are concluded by both parties’ legal representatives.

[Once contracts are signed, this will enable us to gain site access which allows us to immediately progress to the geotechnical investigations, which will finalise the capture of design information.  Once complete, we will be in a position to progress the final design for the Peel regional sewage treatment works.’

The authority said it will be arranging a meeting with Peel Commissioners and the design team to discuss the site layout etc and is in the process of appointing a contractor too.

On the east side of the island, Manx Utilities said that designs are progressing well for the pump station sites at both the Cairns and Glen Garwick an ground probing radar surveys for the pipeline route out of lower Laxey are being scheduled.

It added: ‘We remain grateful to the various landowners that we are in discussion with regarding the land we need, especially for treatment and pumping locations.  Manx Utilities is confident that these matters can shortly be resolved and that it can then present its final solution to the Garff community.’
