Scrooge Strikes Onchan: Wall-Mounted Christmas Tree Initative Scrapped For Residents

Onchan’s Commissioners have donned their best Scrooge outfits this season, announcing they’ll no longer be handing out them wall-mounted Christmas trees for residents to display.

That’s right, those cheerful little festive trees, once lighting up the front of private homes throughout Onchan, are now as absent as Scrooge’s holiday cheer.

In a letter that landed with a thud on residents doorsteps, the Commissioners stated: ‘I am writing to inform you that the Commissioners will no longer be supplying small Christmas trees for display at the front of private properties throughout the district as in previous years.

‘The Board of Commissioners resolved in June to cease the supply of trees and approve the alternative which was to install the Christmas lighting features on Governor’s Road.’

Because nothing says Merry Christmas like diverting all holiday spirit to a single street!

With the announcement met by sighs, eye-rolls, and a few muttered ‘bah humbugs’ from residents online, Onchan locals are now left wondering what’s next in the Commissioners’ quest to streamline festive cheer.

Perhaps in 2025 we’ll all get one bauble to share?

Lets cut them a bit of slack, they’re still laughing at Douglas having fortnightly bin collections, and they do have the best bumper boats on the Isle.

So, while Governor’s Road may now be twinkling, the rest of Onchan will have to make do with their own decorations.
