Appeal for Marshals

With the MGP’s centenary just five days away, organisers have issued a call for marshals to ensure the first sessions can be run.

It’s very simple, if there aren’t enough marshals, the qualifying and racing can’t happen.

Clerk of the course Gary Thompson has said that as things stand, the newcomers’ speed-controlled lap on Sunday August 20 can’t currently take place as ‘we don’t have sufficient marshals in many Sectors of the TT Course’.

He added: ‘It is crucial that we get the event off to a good start with the first session on Sunday August 20 taking place, weather permitting. It’s a long session – roads close at 12.45pm with the Newcomer lap taking place at 1.30 pm followed very quickly by the MGP Senior/Classic Superbike session and then the MG Junior/Senior Classic/MGP Lightweight session with roads opening no later than 6.00pm.

‘So, I ask that any marshal who intends to marshal but hasn’t signed on yet to sign in at (click here) or contact the TTMA office at the marquee behind the Grandstand if you need assistance. This is an iconic year, it won’t happen again in our lifetime and it would be a great shame to lose the first session due to lack of Marshals, particularly if we have the weather.’
