Cav Secures Team Spot
He is now likely to ride in the Tour de France!
The GOAT has agreed a deal to ride for the Kazakhstan based cycling team Astana.
Cav has been without a team since Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl in the summer.
In a move that is likely to fuel hype ahead of hopeful return to the Tour de France in the summer as Astana is one of the teams guaranteed a spot.
Speaking of the move, Cav said he is ‘really excited for this adventure’.
He added: ‘I’m looking forward to being part of a successful team, whether working with the team for wins, crossing the line first myself, or cheering on my team-mates. As always, the objective will be for us to stand on the top podium.’
Cav, who is the current British Road Race Champion, is level with Eddy Merckx on 34 stage wins and was controversially left out of the 2022 team when Quick-Step selected Dutch sprinter Fabio Jakobsen.
Former 2012 Olympic champion Alexander Vinokourov, who manages the team, said he is happy to welcome the ‘best sprinter of all time’.
In other words, the GOAT rides on, the dream lives on!
Delighted to announce my new team! Thank you for such a warm welcome @AstanaQazTeam. Here we go for racing and rap videos ? https://t.co/E8eZcCIz7r
