Damon Hill Swaps Silverstone for Signpost

Former Formula One World Champion Damon Hill reckons his trip to this year’s Manx Grand Prix was ‘well worth it’ – even though he had to ‘brave Hurricane Erin’ to get here.

The English racing legend, who spent most of the 1990s rattling around at 200mph and picking up 22 F1 wins along the way, admitted he was a touch hesitant about crossing the Irish Sea as the storm clouds gathered.

But, like any good racer, he kept his foot down and made it to the island – and by the looks of it, he had a cracking time.

On Facebook, Damon shared a highlight reel with his 73,000 followers, featuring himself taking in the racing at the Creg-ny-Baa and even hopping on his own bike for a ride over the Mountain.

‘We went anyway (despite the storm), and we’re very glad we did!’ he posted.

Some locals were quick to point out that Hurricane Erin was nothing compared to the weather fans endured at TT 2025, or MGP 2024, but we’ll let him off.

It’s not Damon’s first trip over; he’s previously visited as a guest speaker at charity dos in 2006 and 2015. This time though, the dinner jacket stayed at home and the crash helmet came out.

Tourism bosses will be delighted, of course, given he’s not the only celebrity to hail the racing fortnight.

Both Eastenders’ star Jake Wood and Noel Edmonds have praised the MGP/Classic TT.

If Damon Hill’s willing to swap Silverstone for Signpost Corner, that’s as good an endorsement as any. And judging by his post, it won’t be his last lap of the world famous Mountain Course..
