Football’s Tribute to Gentleman George
George also served as the Vice President for the IOMFA (1986-88).
Manx football will fall silent before this afternoon’s kick offs as clubs commemorate the life of George Corkill.
Involved with Marown Football Club for almost 50 years, he served as the club’s FA Representative from 1977 to 1990 and as its President since 1994.
As well as his time with Marown, George also served as the Vice President for the IOMFA (1986-88).
Marown posted its own tribute, saying: ‘We all have our own memories of George, who was always a gentleman and loved to be down the football club having a chat with everyone.
‘Up until late last year George was still keen on helping out around the club, making sure the fixture board was updated every week, making the half time drinks at home games primarily for the combi and always took his duties as President very seriously and making almost every meeting.
‘Its a devastating blow for the club who have lost a lot of friends over the past couple of years.’
