Some Heroes Wear Capes

Crossroads has thanked Charlie Callow, who took part in the New Year’s Day dip to raise money for the Crossroads Nursery. Charlie, six, who started at the nursery when he was six-months-old, did an amazing job with the dip and raised an absolutely incredible amount of £319!

Charlie and his Grandad who also took part in the New Year’s Day dip in aid of Housing Matters.

The charity said: ‘His brother Archie currently attends the nursery, and it has become such a special place to the whole family that they wanted to do something nice for us. Charlie did an amazing job with the dip and raised an absolutely incredible amount of £319. A huge well done and thank you to Charlie for raising money for our nursery, you’re a superstar.’

MAC Commercial (part of the MAC Group) has announced the acquisition of the insurance broking clients of Aon, one of the largest and longest established insurance broking business on the island. The sale of the business to MAC Group was completed on 31 January 2023 and all the staff working for Aon have moved to the MAC Group.

Commenting on the acquisition, Jon McGowan, MAC Group CEO, said: ‘At MAC, we are constantly assessing strategic opportunities to grow our successful insurance and financial services businesses. The acquisition of Aon’s business in the Isle of Man is a significant development both for MAC and our clients. I am delighted to welcome the former Aon clients and staff into the MAC Family.’

Beach Library

Nothing to do with books. Ramsey commissioner Juan McGuiness has shared an update on the town’s boxes, which are filled with buckets and spades for children to play with on the beach, which had become a bit tired after a couple of years of Manx weather.

He said: ‘Not having an artistic bone in my body I commissioned Serendipity Arts & Crafts to work their magic on the boxes and these absolutely stunning designs are the result. I couldn’t be happier with the quality of the work and the stunning design by a fantastic Ramsey business. Can’t wait for them to continue to bring joy on the south prom when they’re stuffed full of beach toys in the spring.’

Coffee

Now obviously the best place to get coffee is at an independent coffee shop, rather than filling the pockets of big chains. But, the consumer group Which? said it has measured the caffeine in drinks at give big chains and found ‘huge differences’.

For example, a medium cappuccino at Costa Coffee has 325mg of caffeine, five times more than Starbucks.

Tom Brady, the winner of seven Super Bowels has announced his retirement ‘for good’ after 23 seasons in the NFL. Brady, 45, retired last year but came back six weeks later, claiming he had ‘unfinished business’. His fine game was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in a 31-14 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys.
