Hockey Teams Fly the Flag
The Men’s side and the Ladies’ B headed to Yorkshire
The island’s hockey teams had mixed fortunes this weekend as two sides headed across the Irish Sea for their English Hockey Club Championships cup ties.
With games rescheduled from last year, the Men’s side and the Ladies’ B headed to Yorkshire to face Leeds Adel.
The Ladies B side were first up, facing Leeds Adels 2 in the Tier 3 Championships losing out in a close game.
Manx Hockey Association said: ‘The ladies did us proud and fought well in a very close game. It went until the last 5 minutes until Adel broke the dead lock from a short corner. The team did everything they could and won a few shorts coming into the closing minutes but the Adel keeper made some great saves to end the game 1-0.’
As for the men’s side, they faced Leeds Adels 1 in the Tier 2 Championship and booked their place in the third round with a comprehensive win.
The MHA added: ‘The Men are into the third round with a 3-1 win over Leeds adel, 2-1 at half time, with goals from Jonny callow and Callum Robb. they dug deep in the second half and a break late on gave the third to seal the game from Elliott Reid made it 3-1.’
