Olympians Head for Home
The team wrapped up their week at the closing ceremony in Berlin, having had a big squad pic at the Berlin Wall.
After a brilliantly successful, medal filled, Summer Games, the island’s Special Olympics Team is homeward bound.

Before the closing ceremony, there was the little matter of the final competitions where, you guessed it, the amazing team picked up more medals.
Great performances from Andrew McGheean and Sean Roberts, who won the men’s doubles earlier in the week, in their bowling singles saw Andrew finish a strong 8th place and Sean win the Silver.
Swimmers Angela Maiden and Katie Dulson had a difficult week with a disqualification and an injury disruption their plans. Despite this, Angela did a great job in the 50m freestyle to bring home a bronze.
Katie meanwhile, had done her four preliminary rounds and was thoroughly enjoying the competition when she slipped on the wet floor and hurt her knee. After two full days resting she managed to swim in her 25M freestyle event finishing 7th. After yet another day resting she swam her backstroke event and finished 4th!
The team wasn’t done there either as over in the gymnastics, Georgia Pearson picked up one silver medal, two bronze medals and two places, while Paul Clucas secured two bronze medals four fourth placed ribbons and one place finish.
Commenting on the week, Special Olympics Isle of Man said: ‘And just like that it’s all over, medals and ribbons won, new friendships formed, battles overcome proud coaches and parents. Experiences you will take away for ever The smiles and giggles will be being partied away tonight at the closing ceremony.’
The team arrive back on the island on the sea cat tonight having done themselves and the island proud.
