PE to PBs: St. Ninian’s Gym Gets an Upgrade

St. Ninian’s High School has unveiled a freshly redeveloped gym, and it’s had a serious upgrade, thanks to the generosity of Elite Fitness in Douglas.

The transformation has turned the space into a brighter, more modern fitness facility for students and staff, while continuing to honour the memory of much-loved former PE teacher Rob Campbell, who passed away in 2015.

The gym was originally created in his name and still reflects the values he was known for: Effort, teamwork and a genuine love of sport.

Work on the revamp took place over the summer and into the current term, with new equipment, improved flooring and a refreshed layout giving the gym a new lease of life.

Elite Fitness, based at Spring Valley Industrial Estate, played a huge role in the project, donating and sourcing equipment, offering expert advice and giving up their time to help bring the school’s vision to life.

The gym is now open to Upper School students and staff, with access available after school and at selected lunchtimes, supporting both physical fitness and wellbeing.

Headteacher Chris Coole and Head of PE Dom Winrow recently met with Elite Fitness’ Kevin Furlong and Stefan White to see the finished space and pass on the school’s thanks.

Additional shout-outs also go to Gary Cawtherley for his hands-on help, and to the Isle of Man Institute of Sport for donating extra equipment.

All in all, it’s a cracking example of community support, and a gym the school can be proud of for years to come.
