Public Didn’t Pay for Tatum Visit

The gov has confirmed that it didn’t contribute financially to Channing Tatum’s visit to the island this TT.
An FoI was submitted asking for how much public money was spent on the visit and what benefit that will bring.
Mr Tatum, unlike Simon Pegg, visited our island this year having previously saying he was interested in making a film about it.
Having confirmed it didn’t pay for his visit, the department said it did offer advice on ‘travel, accommodation, hospitality locations, points of interest around the island and the TT Course and introduced them to teams, riders, ex riders, officials and race organisers’.
The department said that the only cost would’ve been officer time in assisting with the visit, but this wasn’t recorded.
The DfE said: ‘The department became aware of interest in the TT and the island from a number of US based media and film organisations earlier in the year and contacted them to offer advice in planning familiarisation trips to the Island to coincide with the TT Races.
‘As with any important guests, sponsors and media interests, the department seeks to facilitate any requests they may have as to meeting specific riders, teams or officials during their stay. As with other such guests the department will provide a tailored level of relationship management and co-ordination for the visit but the Department does not ordinarily cover any of their anticipated or actual costs.’
