The two Manxmen were dominant in their wins in Liverpool’s Grand Central Hall

Manx boxers Jamie Devine and Matty Rennie both picked up impressive wins in Liverpool this weekend.
Jamie picked up his first professional win in his debut, with Rennie extending his record to 10-0-1.
Having represented the island at the Commonwealth Games, Jamie made his debut at Liverpool’s Grand Central Hall against the vastly more experienced Christian Narvaez.
Jamie controlled the first round as he held the centre of the ring, set the tempo and put together some good combinations to confidently pick up the round.
The second round saw Devine come flying out and pin Narvaez back up against the roads while showing good footwork to dodge and weave his way round the Nicaraguan’s attempts to build some momentum.
Despite his opponent’s vastly greater experience, Devine showed his class and experience at the amateur levels and a maturity not to get caught up in the moment and make any major mistakes.
Come the end of the fourth round, Devine had easily controlled the bout and picked up a 40-36 point win.
Speaking after the bout, Devine’s former coach Pete Roberts Jnr said it had been the ‘near perfect’ debut for the Manxman.
Devine himself said his travelling support was ‘fantastic’, something that was also noted by the livestream commentators.
He added: ‘I was a bit blown away to be honest, honest to god, I’ve been nervous the past few days but it’s only normal isn’t it, it’s just the pressure so I was just trying to stay composed, take everything in and I think I did that.’
Rennie
Returning to the ring after a shoulder injury, Matty Rennie went into his bout with an unbeaten 9-0-1 record and immediately set his stall out against Jake Osgood.
Rennie came flying out the trips and made short work of Osgood with referee David Mulholland having to step in just over two minutes into the first round, giving the Manxman the win by TKO.
After having his hand raised, Rennie had a chat and hug with Scott Davies from Davies Construction, one of his sponsors, who was made up to see him win his lates bout.
Speaking after his fight, Rennie said: ‘I have proved that I’m above this [level] now and can go on to bigger things, I want bigger things too.
‘Wednesday night we got that fight so it was just make do with what we got and I think and proved the point there.’
Rennie went on to thank his sponsors and supporters for travelling across from the island to watch the bouts, saying ‘I can’t thank them enough’.
