Watch: 100mph Barrel Roll Crash in Memorial Rally

Maxx Bradshaw and co-driver Stephen Christian walked away with only minor bruises after a high-speed crash in Saturday’s Chris Kelly Memorial Rally.

Their Mitsubishi Evo IX left the road at the Brandywell Cottage yumps and barrel-rolled twice at over 100mph, a dramatic incident captured on onboard footage.

Storm Amy had already disrupted much of the island’s sport, raising questions over whether the rally could safely go ahead on exposed routes such as Druidale and Beinn-y-Phott.

Conditions on Saturday proved better than Friday’s storm-hit reconnaissance runs, when crews faced flooded roads and gale-force winds.

Bradshaw told Gef: ‘After pushing hard through Druidale on stage one, I carried on over the faster section.

‘On the second jump of Sartfell Road, the car took off, twisted mid-air, and after 200 metres of fighting with the steering wheel, it flew off the road and barrel-rolled twice.

‘Luckily, Stephen and I came out with just a few bruises and were able to walk away.’

A touching moment followed when rally legend Scotty Bradshaw, Maxx’s father, embraced his son after the crash.

Despite the drama, the rally continued, with Irish crews dominating the podium.

Donegal’s Niall McGonigle and Caolan McKenna were the class of the field in their Ford Fiesta Rally2, while Maxx and Stephen now turn their attention to rebuilding and assessing the car in the coming months.
