Watching the World Cup at Work

So it’s here, Qatar 2022, which means only two things, first, you’re not as woke as you thought you were and second, winter world cups are already sh!t.

If you feel at anger people enjoying World Cup, feel free to let everyone know using your favourite Bond villain owned platform.

Not only is it too cold to stand in beer gardens, waiting for the pints to go flying when England or Wales score, there is the matter of games being on during work time.

While this is nothing new, it seems different somehow, anyway, we thought we’d have a quick recap of how to get away with watching games at work.

Before we go any further, most importantly, know who is playing when. Timing is everything, you need to know when to go for lunch, when to make a round of teas, even when to pee.

Right, now, unless it’s England or Wales, watch the game on your phone. You may want to see Argentina v Saudi Arabia, but if you’re caught out while you should be doing that thing you had to have done yesterday, then watching the games that matter will prove just that bit harder.

Secondly, for the games that do matter, if you have a second screen, use it! Sure some people will get annoyed, but if you can keep your output up to at least 65% of normal, you’ll get away with watching Wales v Iran at 10am on a Friday morning.

Thirdly, be nice to people, I can actually feel my co-workers reading this and remembering when I dropped a C-Bomb at 9.05am because I was slightly inconvenienced by a dry whiteboard marker. But don’t be as foolish as I, make sure you’re keeping the team stocked up with tea, maybe even bring in a box of sweets, sure it’s a few quid and a bit of inconvenience, but when you want to watch the last 16, people will only remember when you let them have the last Purple One from your box of Quality Street.

Also don’t forget, earphones are your friend! Whether its AirPods or plug is, if people can’t hear, they’re far less likely to complain, just be wary of missing out on key info, so wear one ear on, or just sit there like Arthur, with your earphones nowhere near your ears.

Above all else, enjoy it, we know that Qatar has many rules and laws that we don’t agree with, but ultimately, it’s happening now, so support your team, maybe even support whoever you got in the sweepstake, but just don’t get caught doing it at work.
