With temperatures set to plummet again this evening, it’s fair to say football, rugby and even hockey fixtures on the island’s so-called all-weather pitches could all be at risk tomorrow.
In the former the ECAP FA Cup quarter-finals should take centre stage if the thaw continues.
Laxey host Douglas Royal, Peel take on Division Two Colby, Rushen face Corinthians and St John’s entertain St George’s in the four ties, which kick-off at 2pm.
The’re a smattering of league games, as well as Women’s FA Cup and Masters League fixtures on Sunday.
FC Isle of Man, all being well, make the trip to Cheshire and Northwich Victoria in the North West Counties Premier Division.
Hopefully coming on the plane in the other direction will be Firwood Waterloo and Bury rugby clubs.
The former take on Douglas at Port-e-Chee in the Manx side’s last game of the Regional Two North West, kicking off at 1.30pm.
Bury face Vagabonds at Ballafletcher as the Counties Three ADM Lancashire/Cheshire season draws to a close. This game kicks off at 2.15pm.
The also domestic action at Ballkilley Park in Port and the second-team pitch at Port-e-Chee where the Ravenscroft Manx Trophy continues.
There’s also a serve of junior rugby on Sunday afternoon at QEII.
There’s hockey scheduled to take place across the island, but a decision on the condition of the regional pitches and the NSC will be made in the morning, with most under snow on Friday.
The Isle of Man women’s team and under-14s boys will be hoping for a weekend free of travel disruption as they take on Newcastle and Brooklands respectively in the England Hockey Championships. Both of those games are scheduled for Sunday in the UK.
The local cycling season is also due to start on Sunday, with the Nick Corkill Tour of the North.
That event takes place on the Andreas/Ramsey/Bride course, starting at 9am from Burmah Road.
In a busy weekend of sport, there’s also netball on Sunday morning at the NSC and Bemahague as well as pit bikes at Jurby, motocross near Bride and a solo motorcycling trial starting at Turkeylands near Balthane.
If that wasn’t enough for you the Isle of Man Darts Festival takes place at the Villa Marina throughout the weekend with sessions on Saturday and Sunday.
