Weekend Sports Preview

This week’s sports preview starts with hockey, as a Manx armada heads off island to fly the flag in the latest round of the England Hockey Championships.

No fewer than six representative island teams are away in action on Sunday.

The under-18 boys head to Cumbria to face Alderley Edge, while the u18 girls face Leek (the Cheshire hockey club, not the vegetable)  in Wilmslow.

The u16 boys head to the East Midlands to take on Beston, while the u16 boys face Leeds in Yorkshire.

Also clocking up the miles are the under-14 who face Bowdon in Altrincham.

Finally a trip to Warrington is on the cards for the island’s women’s side who take on Lymm in Cheshire.

There’s still plenty of on-island action with games in all of the seven domestic leagues at the pitches at the NSC, QEII, KWC, Castle Rushen and Ramsey Grammar.

In football, the ECAP FA Cup continues. There’s one prelim round tie, Ramsey v Corinthians, and seven first round ties dotted across the nation. All kick off at the slightly earlier time of 1.30pm.

FC Isle of Man make the long trip to Kendal Town on Saturday afternoon as they try to steer themselves away from the North West Counties Premier Division’s relegation spots.

After the excitement of the Floodlit Cup last weekend, women’s football returns to league action on Sunday afternoon with three games kicking off at 2pm.

Sunday also sees a raft of games in the senior netball leagues at both Bemahague and NSC.

There’s also the final round of Western AC’s trail run series. Both the 5 and 10km races start and finish behind the kipper yard in Peel at 10am and head out along the heritage trail toward St John’s.

Finally, there’s also something for motorsport fans on Sunday with a schoolboy motocross at Ballagarraghyn in Jurby at 10am and a sidecar trial at Billown Glen near Cross Four Ways at the same time.
