Drivers Failing to Stop for Lollipop Crossings
Rule 210 of the Highway Code: ‘You MUST stop when a school crossing patrol officer shows a ‘Stop – children’ sign.’
The Police have reminded drivers they are required to stop when lollipop men/women show instruct them to.
This follows a number of reports of people ignoring the crossings which are used outside schools.
Just incase you are so dense you don’t realise this is a bad idea, Road Safety Isle of Man has said: ‘You MUST stop when signalled to do so by a school crossing patroller. Failing to do so may result in a visit from one of our Police Officers. This is also a gentle reminder that the areas around the schools have 20mph speed limits.
‘Our school crossing patrollers are there to keep our children and their grown-ups safe when crossing to and from school. If you drive past a school please allow a little extra time as people may be crossing the road.’
The Roads Policing Unit has also shared Rule 210 of the Highway Code, which says: ‘You MUST stop when a school crossing patrol officer shows a ‘Stop – children’ sign.’
