Manannan Replacement not Likely Before 2030
The company also again makes clear its intention to sell the Ben-my-Chree and utilise the Arrow as the backup vessel
The Steam Packet’s working assumption is that the Manannan will continue in service until the end of the decade.
The fast craft is currently due to be replaced by the end of 2027.
In the company’s business plan for 2024, published after a written question from Chris Thomas (Douglas Central), shows that the company’s assumed budget for a replacement fast craft is £25m.
It added that the new assumed delivery date for this is 2030.
Heading into the new season, the company has spent just under £800,000 on upgrading the Manannan’s passenger areas, which it said was ‘an attempt to align the passenger experience with Manxman as far as possible’.

The company also again makes clear its intention to sell the Ben-my-Chree and utilise the Arrow as the backup vessel, saying that ‘retention of BMC in semi-permanent lay-up will reduce her reliability and incur substantial
future maintenance costs’.
Costs
Going into 2024, the company’s plan, which was finalised in December 2023, the Steam Packet’s budget forecasts a 6.7% fall in EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization), as costs increases of 10.1% exceed revenue growth projections of 5.1%.
Other costs include a captail provision of £370,000 for ‘essential eMaritme (booking system) work as well as migration of SteamPacket Holidays to eMaritime and the development of a Steam Packet mobile App’.
