Manxman Set For Liverpool Berthing Trials

The Steam Packet’s flagship, Manxman, is heading to Liverpool for some crucial checks and trials at the end of this month.

The ferry will undergo a short dry docking to inspect all its parts, including the underwater sections and bow thrusters.

This routine maintenance will also include permanent repairs for damage sustained while docking at Heysham in high winds last month.

While it’s in Liverpool, Manxman will also carry out mandatory berthing trials at the new Isle of Man Ferry Terminal.

These trials involve docking at different tides and weather conditions, ensuring everything is shipshape ahead of the vessel’s winter service.

Steam Packet boss Brian Thomson said:  ‘Safety is our top priority. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards for all our vessels.’

For passengers, there’s no need to worry.

The trusty Ben-my-Chree will handle Manxman’s sailings while it’s in dry dock, starting with the 8pm sailing from Douglas on Sunday, September 29th. Passengers will be informed of any changes by the reservations team.

As for the Ben-my-Chree, it’ll need to do its own berthing trials in Liverpool later on, but if all goes well with Manxman, only a few checks should be required.
