Work Progressing to Reopen Mountain
The DoI says good progress has been made in removing friable material and stabilising the rock face at Lhergy Frissell.
However, further work needs to be done before the road can be reopened.
Before the road is ready, the DoI says it will have to resurface the carriageway in the vicinity of the rockfall to ensure it is in a fit state. It had said it hoped to open the road on Monday, but that now seems dependent on progress this weekend.
Un order to get the Ramsey to Bungalow section of the Mountain Road open as soon as possible, carriageway resurfacing at Sulby Straight on the A3 Ramsey to Castletown Road has had to be paused to allow the DoI’s paver team to relocate to Lhergy Frissell where it will prepare and resurface the carriageway.
Last week the DoI said over 2,000 tonnes of material has been removed from site of the rockfall.
Sulby Straight will remain open to two way traffic under temporary traffic lights whilst work on that site is on hold. It is anticipated that work at Sulby will resume on or about Monday May 15.
The DoI will issue an update this weekend to announce when the Mountain will fully reopen, before it goes one way on May 26.
