Ferry Much a Problem But Help Flying In

The Steam Packet’s Manannan is still out of action after a generator packed in over the weekend – and now specialist engineers are being flown in today to try and sort it.

All sailings on Sunday and Monday were cancelled, and Tuesday’s trips are still looking sketchy (update on this at around 5pm).

The issue started on Saturday, when one of the fast craft’s generators failed.

Since then, the on-board crew and shoreside workshop team have been working flat out to replace it with a spare unit kept ashore. That job kicked off on Sunday and is continuing today.

To speed things up, the Packet’s flying in extra electrical engineers this afternoon to run further diagnostics and help fix the problem.

They’re also planning to sort out another smaller electrical issue while they’re at it.

Steam Packet boss Brian Thomson said: ‘We’re doing everything we can to minimise disruption and return to normal service as soon as possible.’

So, for now, it’s a waiting game – but fingers crossed for some good news later.
