Manannan Back in Action

The wait is over… the Manannan is officially back in action.

After its winter break, the high-speed ferry has returned to daily sailings between the Isle of Man and Liverpool, meaning day trips and quick getaways are firmly back on the cards.

But it’s not been sat around doing nothing.

Like all vessels, Manannan has been through its annual dry-dock, a full out-of-water inspection required as part of its certification with the Isle of Man Ship Registry.

And it’s safe to say it’s had a proper tune-up.

The craft’s four Caterpillar diesel engines are serviced on a rotating basis, with one stripped down and overhauled each winter by engineers and specialist contractors.

Below the waterline, the hull has been checked, repaired where needed and given a fresh coat of specialised marine paint, all to keep things running smoothly (and efficiently) for the busy season ahead.

Safety has also been a big focus this year, with servicing carried out on liferafts, a brand new rescue boat added onboard, and the vessel’s CCTV system upgraded.
