As the Isle of Man gears up for the 2024 TT races, Chief Constable Russ Foster has a message for all you thrill-seekers and speed demons out there.

In a bid to keep everyone safe and sound, he’s put together some top tips that that will ensure we all have a safe, but very fun fortnight.

First of all, Foster said he is excited to welcome the hordes of visitors that will flock to our rock.

He said: ‘As the Isle of Man begins to prepare for the 2024 TT races, we are looking forward to meeting the thousands of visitors who we anticipate visiting our island.

‘Here at the Constabulary we have been meticulously planning for some months now to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable TT experience.’

He’s particularly pleased that since the return of the TT in 2022, there have been no fatalities on public roads during the motorsport events.

So what’s his big message ahead of the fortnight? It’s simple: ‘Know your limits!’

Chief’s Tips for a safe but smashing good time, explained by Gef:

  • Riding Capability and Motorcycle Limits: Don’t be that overconfident rider who thinks they’re the next Peter Hickman. Respect your skills and your bike’s capabilities.
  • Road Familiarisation: The roads here have more twists than a mystery novel. Get to know them before you let loose (and not just playing the TT game on your Xbox).
  • Motorcycle Roadworthiness: Your bike should be in tip-top shape. No one wants to see your grand adventure end in a breakdown.
  • Legal Compliance While Socialising: We get it, pints in the sun are fun, but keep it safe and legal. Our laws are strict, and we don’t want to see you on the wrong side of a Jurby jail cell.
  • Following Marshal Directions: The orange army are there to keep things smooth. Listen to them, and don’t be the reason for an avoidable mishap.

Foster concluded with a warm invitation to enjoy everything the Isle of Man has to offer: ‘I would encourage you to take the time to enjoy the the culture and hospitality of the Manx people, explore all parts of the island and experience the sights and all the beauty that the Isle of Man has to offer.

‘It is truly a wonderful place and the safest island in the British Isles and we want to keep it that way.’

So, rev those engines, soak in the sights, and remember — keep it safe, keep it fun, and keep it within the limits!
