Daisy & Hugsy: A Little Girl’s Big Heart After Losing Her TT Racer Dad

When Daisy Mathison was just three, her world was shattered.

Her dad, TT racer Daley Mathison, tragically died during the 2019 Isle of Man TT while racing in the Superbike event.

His bike struck trees and burst into flames between Ashlar Drive and Snugborough Trading Estate in Braddan on the third lap of the opening race.

Daley, who was just 27, had competed in 19 TT races and earned three podium finishes.

He was remembered as a bright star of road racing, certainly taken far too soon.

Now aged nine, Daisy has turned her grief into something incredibly special: a storybook for other children who have lost someone they love.

Daisy & Hugsy — The Missing Star is a tender tale about loss, love and healing, told from one child to another.

Inspired by a drawing she did of her toy bear Hugsy, the book follows their search for a missing star, a symbol of her dad.

The idea? To help other kids know it’s okay to feel sad, lost or confused, and that they’re not alone.

Since its release, the book has already moved plenty of readers, with many saying it’s a must-have for schools and families dealing with bereavement.

The book launched this week, just as Daisy marked her dad’s anniversary, and with Father’s Day around the corner.
