‘Widespread Frost’

A yellow weather warning is back on the cards for the Isle of Man from 5pm today, marking the second time this week the Met Office has told us all to stop pretending it’s still autumn.

According to forecaster Stuart Davison, clear skies and light winds are about to turn the island into one big slip-n-slide, with temperatures plunging below zero shortly after sunset.

Expect a ‘widespread frost’ and ‘some icy patches’ wherever things are a bit damp.

The warning covers the whole island.

Things should warm up a touch before dawn as cloud and wind move in, meaning Wednesday morning should be frost-free, unless you’re up at a stupid hour, in which case good luck to you.

Meanwhile, the DoI’s winter warriors have fired up the gritters. This afternoon they’re hitting:

• Route 5: Ellerslie Depot, Richmond Hill, Airport, Port Erin

• Route 6: Ellerslie Depot, Peel, Dalby, The South

• Route 9: Onchan, Noble’s, Braddan

• Route 10: Upper Douglas, Pulrose, Lower Douglas, Business Park

Routes 3 and 7 were already gritted last night and apparently don’t need another go. Those cover:

• Route 3: Glen Duff Depot, Ballig Bridge

• Route 7: Glen Duff Depot, Creg-ny-Baa, Brandywell Cottage, Reservoir car park, Glen Duff

The DoI has also politely reminded motorists that even gritted roads can still be slippy, especially overnight.
