Gale force winds are set to arrive overnight and continue over the coming days.

Our resident weather guru, famous for his spectacular Northern Lights updates, shared his latest satellite picture, showing the low-pressure system that is heading straight for us.

It looks set to be a mix of strong winds, showers and blustery conditions across the island.

The Met Office five-day forecast shows that winds will continue to strengthen today (Thursday), reaching 35 to 45mph with gusts up to 55mph later.

Friday will bring some sunshine and isolated showers, though these may merge into longer spells of rain by the evening.

The winds will remain strong, with gusts reaching up to 50mph before easing later.

By the weekend, conditions are set to change slightly.

Saturday will be largely cloudy with a risk of rain at times, with winds turning northerly and a chance of frost or ice later.

Sunday looks drier with bright spells at first, though rain may develop later in the day, and winds shifting from the north-west to south-west by the afternoon.

So, it looks like a proper windy end to the week is on the way.
