The Post office releases first ever triangular stamps

You can’t reinvent the wheel, but you can reinvent the stamp. The Isle of  Man post office has released four stamps to celebrate the Chinese New Year, designed by Manx artist Jay Cover. Excitingly, the stamps are the first triangular stamps to be in circulation in the British Isles. The designs are GORGEOUS, and celebrate the year of the Ox.

Young farmers tractor runs light up island

The island has once again been lit up by young farmers. The southern run, which took place last night (11th December),  set off from King William’s College and finished in St Johns.  If you missed the spectacle, the young farmers will set off at 5:30 tonight (12th December) from St Johns and finish at Rebecca House in Onchan.  You can find details of the route on the Isle of Man Young Farmers Facebook page.

Half a million queenies relocated
500,000 queenies, weighing a combined total of 9 tons, have been moved from the route of a new telecommunications cable. We wish the queenies the best in their new home.

Manx singer releases Christmas song

Manx-born singer Becky Skillan has released a Christmas song called ‘It’s Christmas’ and it’s a BANGER. The country singer wrote the song with her mum, Julia, who lives on the island. We love an iconic mother and daughter duo.

WANTED: An assistant warden for the Calf of Man

Big lights of Douglas getting you down? Missing isolation? Well, have I got a job for you. The Manx Wildlife Trust have announced that they’re looking for an assistant warden for the Calf of Man. The job is perfect for a wannabe David Attenborough with loads of animal surveying- but you will still have to mingle with society as you’ll be responsible for island tours and helping with education programmes.

Public health takes on winter health

We all know that health services are stretched in winter, so public health has launched a new initiative to ensure we all keep well and protect the vulnerable. There’s a variety of advice, from tips about mental wellbeing to advice about when you should contact your GP. Woodbourne team raise cash for charities

As well as running one of the island’s most loved pubs, the Woodbourne team have been raising cash for charities. They raised 3.5k for a guide dog charity, and a further £1,005 for the Joey Dunlop foundation. They’re also selling a commemorative booklet to celebrate 125 years of the Woody, which you can buy at the pub. All the proceeds will be donated to a guide dog charity.

Nigella teaches us how to pronounce Microwave

Finally, Nigella Lawson has enlightened us with the correct pronunciation of ‘microwave’. More fool you if you’ve been pronouncing it ‘my-crow-wave’, as Nigella has demonstrated that it’s actually ‘meecrowahvé’. Who knew?
