Wettest April on Record
Last month was wet.
Ronaldsway forecasters have confirmed what we’ve all been feeling – that April was so wet even the ducks at St John’s Arboretum were considering building arks.
Clocking in at a whopping 138.8mm, last month’s rainfall broke records faster than Michael Dunlop on the TT Course (Can you tell we’re excited?)
It’s like Mother Nature hit the repeat button, with five months in a row now boasting above-average rainfall.
Despite a brief dry spell hat had us all dreaming of pints at The Bay, the first half of April was as soggy as a sponge in a dishwasher.
The morning of April 9 saw a downpour of 49.5mm, making it the soggiest April day since the Met Office started keeping score back in 1947. Talk about making a splash!
While daytime temperatures played it cool at 11.4°C, the nights were as mild as a gossip session at the Rovers, averaging 6.7°C.
And let’s not forget about the wind – storm Kathleen blew through like an uninvited guest, clocking gusts of up to 60mph on April 6.
The mean wind speed for the month was 13.6 knots, making it the fourth windiest on record. Hold onto your hats, folks!
Sunshine hours were about as scarce as a mongoose sighting, but we managed to squeeze in a few rays towards the end of the month.
With 154.2 hours on the clock, we were about 25 hours short of a decent tan.
April 26 tried its best to make up for lost time with a whopping 13.9 hours of sunshine – guess someone up there felt sorry for us!
After the whirlwind of gales and floods, April decided to throw in some fog for good measure on the 10th. But at least we didn’t have to deal with air frost, snow, hail, or thunder – small mercies, right?
