Slight Decrease in Recorded Suicides
The information was released following an FoI request.
There was a further drop in the number of recorded suicides in 2022, an FoI has revealed.
Cabinet Office Minister Kate Lord-Brennan has said a strategy focussed on prevention of suicide will be published at the end of March.
The FoI asked for all recorded suicides in the last five years, dating back to 2018 and revealed that there were 10 recorded suicides in 2022, down from 11 in 2021 and 22 in 2020.
There had previously been 11 and six in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
When she was asked about the strategy in the House of Keys, Ms Lord-Brennan said: ‘Getting any strategy right, clear and fit for purpose is very important. The first sight I had of the draft strategy was last year. It didn’t quite meet my requirements to give me confidence to take it forward. It had positive feedback but was perhaps premature.’
