Galentine’s Day – Ladies Celebrating Ladies

You may have heard the term ‘Galentine’s Day’, but have your ever wondered what it is?

In its simplest terms Galentine’s as a ‘holiday’ is an easy concept to understand. It simply involves allocating time to spend some time with friends doing something fun.

Everyone has different ideas of fun, whether it be having a gossip over a bottle of wine (or beer in my case), painting a miniature canvas and telling your mate that she has definitely got what it takes to go professional with it – as long as fun is being had, the activity at hand doesn’t have to be anything spectacular.

The concept began on the NBC’s Parks and Recreation TV show through fictional character Leslie Knope.

She originated the holiday in 2010, and described it as ‘ladies celebrating ladies’, as she treated her female friends to a delicious brunch, with plenty of gifts and words of appreciation.

‘What’s Galentine’s Day? Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.’

Galentine’s as a holiday is an easy concept to understand. It simply involves allocating time to spend some time with friends doing something fun.

It has become a worldwide phenomenon, with women participating all over the globe.

Women empowering women, instilling from a young age that you don’t need a man to be happy (and vice versa).

Indulging in quality time with friends, male or female and appreciating the beauty of friendships is what this holiday represents.

Prepare to have your social media bombarded with treats such as: glasses of prosecco, chocolate covered strawberries and roses.

Whether you have a sip of fizz to dull the ache of heartbreak, celebrate the friendships around you – or because you are madly in love.
