Gef’s Top Tips For Getting Over The TT Blues

Published

on

It’s Tuesday. The TT is over.

The roads are open, the fair has vanished into thin air and Bushy’s and the TT Fan Park have gone from centres of the universe back to being fields.

Sure, TT 2026 may not have delivered quite as much racing as we’d hoped thanks to the weather doing classic Manx weather things, but the fun was still had. We hope.

Have your white trainers recovered from Bushy’s yet? Are you still gutted you never bumped into Channing Tatum or Brad Pitt? Or are you simply struggling with the fact you’re no longer three pints deep at 11am waiting for another weather delay?

Fear not. Here are Gef’s top tips for beating the TT blues.

Keep Going To The Grandstand

The grandstand is still there. Probably.

Head up, take your massive camera and shout enthusiastically at passing traffic. It’s not quite the same as watching superbikes at 200mph, but a white van doing 37mph towards Ago’s Leap can still get the heart racing if you believe hard enough.

Keep Wearing Your Leathers

You’ve spent two weeks sweating, dancing and spilling various beverages on them.

At this point they’re less clothing and more a second skin.

Just keep wearing them and insist it’s a fashion statement. Nobody can prove otherwise.

Recreate Bushy’s At Work

Can’t stop hearing ‘Jesus Is A Friend Of Mine’ in your head?

Simple.

Play it quietly through one earbud while staring blankly at your computer screen. Every now and then, raise your hands in the air and pretend you’re in a packed tent surrounded by people who’ve forgotten what day it is.

It’s basically the same thing.

Visit The Prom Fair

Oh wait.

You can’t.

Instead, stand on Harris Promenade and spin around in circles until you feel slightly sick and significantly poorer.

The resemblance is uncanny.

Denial Is Key

Most importantly, refuse to accept it’s over.

Keep checking the Whatsapp Infoline. Keep wondering where all the bikes went. Keep expecting to hear a helicopter overhead.

If anyone tells you the TT has finished, simply shake your head and say: ‘No, we’re just waiting for the next weather update.’

Repeat daily until TT 2027 arrives.

Or until someone gently intervenes.
