Gef’s What’s On Guide: Poets, Kayaks & Stevie Nicks

Published

on

Hello my friend. Welcome to the end of another week. I have never seen someone achieve so much. You must be exhausted. But not so exhausted that you’re going to stay in and descale your kettle listening to The Sound of Silence on repeat again.

Instead, try one of these.

Rebel Poets Club in a Pub

*Like a Manx Dead Poets Society with booze.

When: Friday, 26 January

Where: The Whitehouse, Peel

Time: 7:30-9:30pm

The DEBUT night of the Rebel Poets Club in a Pub. So, what to expect: Basically a heartily human poetry or other spoken word hang out where you can share poetry, chat poetry, make poetic friends, experiment, try out new stuff, get feedback, all in a very mellow setting with friendly humans . Also a feeder night for prepping for Penny Productions’ spoken word open mic evenings. Exciting things to come in the world of Manx poets. Don’t you know it.. s.

Stevie Nicks Tribute Night

*Great for people who love fake versions of rock stars.

When: Saturday, 27 January

Where: South Douglas Old Friends Association

Time: 7:30pm

Price: Get tickets here.

It’s not the real Stevie Nicks.

Karaoke & Irish Music Sesh

*Two wonderful things happening under one Ramsey roof.

When: Friday, 26 January

Where: The Mitre Hotel, Ramsey

Time: 9pm-1am

Karaoke in one room. Irish music in another. Expect a kaleidoscope of genres. And performance quality.

Go with the Flow, Sulby River Kayak Explorer

*A great way to see what lurks in the hidden depths of Sulby River.

When: Saturday, 27 January

Where: The White Bridge, Ramsey

Time: 11am-1:30pm

Price: Tickets here.

Hop on one of these glass bottom sit on top kayaks and travel up into the wilds of this nature reserve.
It’s usual to spot beautiful Little Egret, Herons, Canada geese, Kingfisher and sometimes the elusive one ring to rule them all. The kayaking is easy, no previous experience is necessary. Unless you have no previous experience in sitting down and looking. In those cases, experience is needed.

If none of those appeal, I hear there’s a make your own clothes drying rack party going on Friday night in the junk yard outside the GUM Clinic. Start time to be confirmed but likely to be 4:13am.
