Flat Plan for ex Bank Building

Peel’s former branch of the Isle of Man Bank could house a new two bed flat, if plans by Clear Pharmacy gain approval of planners.

The pharmacy already has permission to covert the former bank into a pharmacy.

The company said that it has little requirement for the ride floor so would like to make ‘efficient use’ of the first floor, with the pharmacy on the ground floor.

Its application says: ‘By replanning the ground floor pharmacy area to be self-contained it is possible to have sufficient space on first floor for a good sized two-bedroom apartment.

‘Having an apartment on the first floor is compatible with other residential apartments above shops, in the town centre locality, and ti is complimentary to the use of the ground floor as a pharmacy. The apartment has been designed to have a separate sole access from the street, and the pharmacy has its own entrances for staff and public.’

To make the pharmacy self contained, there would also be a need for internal and external changes, primarily focused on the removal of a chimney stack that extends through the building and out of the roof.

If approved, the flat would have two bedrooms, a kitchen/dining area, study, utility room and store room.

The application adds: ‘The Applicant believes that the creation of the apartment above the pharmacy is compatible with other residential apartments above shops in Peel town centre; and the residential use is complimentary to the ground floor use as a pharmacy. The applicant also believes the loss of the two chimney stacks will be no detriment to the Conservation Area.’
